Longevity – Bury and Norwich Post, 15 September 1847:
There is at present a woman named Mary Benton, living in the village of Elton, near Stockton-on-Tees, who has attained the great age of 107 years, and is at present in possession of most of her faculties. Within the last month she might have been seen haymaking.
NOTE: The 1841 census for Long Newton, Stockton on Tees & Sedgefield, Durham, England records a Catherine (the Mary is crossed out) Benton aged 98. This appears to be the same person which means she would have been 104 in 1847 and not 107. No record of her death yet found.
