Wedding for the ages – Bury and Norwich Post, 31 August 1836:

On Friday last, John Scates, carpenter, aged 68, to the widow Childs, both of this town. The bridegroom had been judged too far advanced in his dotage to redeem his “lady love” for her child-hood, and when the happy couple left the church, their arbitrary neighbours, conceiving that
“Music hath helpt e’en madmen to their wits,” Met them at the door, and saluted them with loud strains drawn from boilers, saucepans, and kettles, which might have forcibly reminded them of their want of means to make the pot boil; for their first wedding visit was to the Guardians for relief.
